A 71 year old man with possible asbestos exposure
had a chest x-ray and a contrast enhanced CT exam
that revealed a 3 cm pleural based lesion in the
right upper lobe.
A PET scan showed that the lesion was hypermetabolic and likely neoplastic. It also revealed a second lesion involving a paratracheal
lymph node that represented early metastatic disease.
PET was used to evaluate the lesion seen on CT, confirm that it was malignant and identify early metastasis. |
